Posting Photos

A quick lesson in posting photos. I have noticed that some of our members "My Page" loads slower than others. An easy cure for this is to make sure your photos are optimized for the web. In otherwords, reduced file size and the proper format. A"jpg" or "png" are the best. I use jpg for my photos and png for my logos, drawings etc... You can post large photos but thats where the speed comes in to play. If you have access to a program like Adobe Photoshop or most any photo editor can optimize

1 Year Anniversary!

June marks our 1st anniversary for the Concrete Artists Network. We have seen a lot of changes to our network and our lives. We lost a great member, Wayne Sellon, we gained a huge amount of interest in our craft and met alot of really great people. We've watched our collegues and friends struggle and collapse in the economy. That in it's self could be enough for most of us. A very up and down year for a lot of us. And not just us but the entire world has become a mess. Our government has nearly… Continue

Where Are We?

Just a curious question. I was sitting at my computer and looking at the past activity on the network and I noticed that we have slowed a bit. Is everyone getting busy? Is there work out there? Have we left the computer for the trowel? I really hope so. I haven't been able to be here as much as would like because I'm looking for anything available too!
If you are getting work, make sure to take plenty of photos and add them to your page! We all love pictures! If anyone has a story about a job or… Continue

Wayne Sellon

For anyone that has signed up as a member on the Concrete Artists Network, most likely you know of Wayne Sellon. He was always the first one to welcome our new members and would almost always have an answer. I never asked for him to take that position. He took it upon himself to help out any way he could. I want to thank him for all the support and involvement he gave to our network. It made my work here a lot better.

I had the opportunity to be a featured artist along with Wayne on the Vertica… Continue

Online webinar success!

After attending several of these online webinars it has got me thinking. Vertical concrete in it's self has definately come a long way in the ten or so years that I have been involved. Even though we are just getting our feet wet with thes "live discussions" I can see a definate trend towards learning, teaching and just getting the public to better understand what we as concrete artists do. I would encourage everyone on this network to, at the very least, sign in and listen. I think once we all… Continue

2 KITCHENS IN EVERY HOME-start training for the future?

Outdoor Kitchens are very useful for the homeowner. They can be used to entertain guests but mainly used for families. The outdoor space can also be enclosed for winter use if built inside a paragola or screenporch with large siding doors. -GOOGLE SKETCHUP IS FREE-use it, live it, love it. There are methods to build the job with decorative masonry and concrete that will last a few lifetimes and look classy. If a pizza/bread/roasting oven are added this makes the room a centerpiece. Jobs are out there. You just have to learn to do all the different kinds of trades to compete today.

If you are a small business with only a couple employees. Learn to do all your own masonry work along with building all the pretty stuff. My profits are high due to low labor and not giving away all the easy jobs to the other contractors. Learn electric. It can save you time and $. Low voltage lighting adds 10 to 15% to projects for me. VerticalRockCarvng.com & TrabajoRustico.com

Who is Jeff Datin?

My name is Jeff Datin, born and raised in SoCal. After I moved with my family to Riverside, Ca., I started racing off road. First it was Honda Odysseys then 3-wheelers then Quads that I still race and ride to this day. Originally a mechanic by trade, I left the mainstream automotive field to be an off road race car mechanic that I excelled at working with three of the winningest teams in the industry.
After about 7 years of travel and hard work, my wife Lisa and I started a family. I left the ra… Continue
